Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is lacking native support for a second unit and second quantity. Typical applications are e.g. material sold by the meter (like cables, rails, wooden planks) and cut to order.
Example:
a rail has length of 50m and is sold in any piece thereof greater than 10mm. Sales order should read e.g: 10 pcs of 7.20m each.
Current workarounds:
* Configuration and Sub-BOM with the length based item, while super-item is in pieces. But lengthy manual process to add a new length that has not been ordered
* dimension size: same issue if length can be arbitrary and not just a numberable options
