Occasionally, we get requests to remove certain Activities from the New button. Since all activities are under the 'Activity' umbrella it is no possible to remove Phone calls without removing all activities. To meet this requirement, it requires unsupported modifications to the Crm UI. If the individual activities were broken out by security role, we could just remove permission to the undesired activity without unsupported modifications.

At our firm, we've had a number of clients who would like to use specific Activity types, but limit or remove others. Most often, they are using Appointment, Phone Call, Task and Email, but often want to remove Letter, Fax, Recurring Appointment and Service Activity (or another similar combination). Currently, it is only possible to set privileges on the Activity entity. It would be extremely useful if we could set more granular security permissions on the various Activity types - e.g. Create/Read/Update on Phone Call and Appointment, Create on Task, etc.

The link above is broken. Is it possible to have the link of the post on the new portal?

I would agree. I was planning on submitting this same request - glad someone already beat me to it. I would also add that the ability to set priv's for activities should expand to custom activities as well. So, for example, if I create a "credit note" custom activity that only my Financial Services roles should have access to, but a "shared note" activity that both Financial Services and Customer Service, but not Marketing should have access to, I should be able to control that at the Security Role level. Cheers. RC CRM

To expand upon this. Activities are used in many places, Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities, and so on. It would be great to be able to control the ability to View Activity on an Account, but yet give full access on Contact or any combination of this sort. To do this by Role and also by Activity Type would be fantastic.
