Currently the financial dimensions on the production order header are defaulted to the picking list journal lines and takes precedence from any financial dimensions specified on the raw materials. If no financial dimension is on the production order header, then the financial dimension from the raw material is used (provided one has been specified on the raw material). The idea being requested is to add a parameter setting that allows the user to choose either using the Financial dimensions from the production order header, or the financial dimension specified on the raw material for the picking list. Doing so would empower the customer to further control their production and reporting set-up.

We are having this exact problem and it's putting our Trial Balance out of whack - it's fine on the PNL but it's a big effort to get the products' dimensions re-classed.
If you're a customer using D365 and have this same problem we (at Peet's Coffee) would like to hear how you're handling it - feel free to reach out.
