With the deprecation of the old school Mail Merge feature, we will no longer have an OOTB feature to run templates against multiple records. Document Templates only allow the user to run against a single record.
People still send out paper mail. As long as they do, they'll ask for the ability to run Form Letters against multiple records.

Michael is right, the mail merge function is essential for some customers. Please provide an equivalent alternative.
