  • Bring Colors Back to UI Actions

The monochrome actions found throughout the application do make it harder for people who see in color to more quickly differentiate between buttons. If there are users who can benefit from the readability of monochromatic icons, then simply make that an option for them to opt into or make it an option for others to opt out of.

  • Enhance Profile Customization with Additional Action Features

It is nice to be able to use Profile Customization to promote and move around actions. We find it handy to promote all the actions needed for our users on the pages and cards and hide the rest, knowing that all actions are available in the fixed menus (Actions | Related | Reports | Automate). When there are many actions, it is handy to list those inside the menus that are found to the left of the fixed menus (like Home | Prepare | Print | Send). The following enhancements to this area would be helpful in fine-tuning the UI for our users:

    • Ability to add our own custom-named action groups beyond what is in the baseline application such as the "Home" group.
    • Ability to move actions that are found in FactBoxes.
    • Ability to add actions to FactBoxes.
    • Consider an item-based FactBox...it's conceivable that you'd want to add actions that you get to use on the item card page from the FactBox. This is helpful in reducing clicks and deep "Window Stacking" that is the hallmark of the new client. We accomplish this through custom page extensions, but it would be more sustainable and adoptable if this were available through profile customization.
    • Ability to change the tool tip and caption and label of fields and actions through profile customization.
  • Analysis Mode - Item Attributes

Analysis mode is a great feature that is saving folks a lot of time. Consider how helpful it would be to use analysis mode on items with attributes.

As an example, let's take an Item Category Code (ICC) of Fasteners and that ICC contains the drop-down attribute of Material. If there are ICCs of Nuts, Bolts and Washers who all have Fasteners as their Parent ICC, they all inherit the Material attribute, and they all contain attributes of the own that are not shared amongst all fasteners. Take the Washer ICC: it might have the following attributes:

    • Material (Drop-down Option, inherited from Parent ICC)
    • Thickness (Decimal)
    • Outer Diameter (Decimal)
    • Inner Diameter (Decimal)

If a user wanted to know what stainless steel fasteners we have, we can filter by attributes natively on an Item List with Filter by Item Attributes where Material = Stainless Steel. If you know what kind of bolt the washer could be used on, you might want to look at the list grouped by the attribute Inner Diameter. Since this attribute is not a field on the item card, we cannot leverage the new Analysis View to do this. There is the helpful ability to add fields from related tables to the analysis view, but the way Attributes and Attribute Values tables are constructed, this isn't available.

I think further development of Analysis View to be able to leverage Attributes would be extremely helpful and would add value to both the Analysis View and Attribute features of Business Central.

  • FactBox Actions Burried

For actions that exist on FactBoxes, those appear to only be able to be accessed by selecting the FactBox title. In the RTC, actions were presented right on the card, not hidden behind the menu. If users cannot see the buttons, they might not know they are there inside that hidden menu. The best way to implement this is to enable the ability to move actions around in FactBoxes through personalization and profile configuration.

  • Next and Previous Record Buttons

The previous and next record buttons occupy too much real-estate, especially after the web client uses so much whitespace. These should move to the persistent top section where the Edit, Share, New and Delete buttons are located. If these are moved, there could be possibly inches saved, depending on screen resolution and zoom setting.

  • Copy Link - Edit or Read-Only

For us, we'd prefer a Copy Link action take users to an editable version of the page they're being linked to. I understand this might not be preferrable for everyone, but with the appropriate permissions in place, there really isn't any security concern here.

It would be nice if an administrator could choose whether Copy Link resulted in a mode=View or mode=Edit link.

For hard-coded applications, we do modify the hyperlink to records to include the &mode=edit ULR parameter.

  • Dial Phone Buttons / Hotlinks

Anywhere there is a phone number in BC should be a hyperlink to dial that number. In the old system, there was a button next to the Customer phone number. Now there is nothing. Click to call is increasingly common, so I'm not sure why a feature like this would be depreciated.

Anytime there is a URL, Email or Phone Number field in business central, it should be a hyperlink...save the button!

If for some reason a tenant didn't want this, you could make this an option in a setup window somewhere to enable / disable "Show Communication Fields as Hyperlinks."

In case this isn't clear, we're talking about URLs, TEL: and EMAIL: protocols.

  • Teams - Pop Contact or Customer Card on Inbound Call

Over 15 years ago, RingCentral had an option to pop open either a Customer Card or a Contact Card from the Business Central RTC. How handy...you're a salesperson handling an inbound call, and your related card is already open for you. How does Teams Phone not do this already when it's running under the same unified credentials? There's even a BC app for Teams, and it can't even do this.

  • Copy Link - Friendly Text Construction Options

It sure would be nice to have control over the text that appears in the Copy Link action. For instance, we might not need the environment included in the link. It'd be great to have control over this aspect of this important feature.

If the Copy Link actions is to be improved ever, let's also consider this idea: https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=af5081fe-b105-f111-bb46-6045bd7ab5ad

  • Hide Web Client Editor - Progressive Web App

You don't appear to be able to hide the header bar when deploying the PWA. We use Edge Cloud Policies to deploy BC to our users. This policy is (conveniently) targeted toward our O365 Security Groups, which are used to grant permissions to uses. This way, we can truly centralize deployment.

We have not figured out a way to use the showheader=0 when deploying the web app. Also, we don't believe disabling the header should prevent users from changing companies with CTRL+O, but it does.
