In the Asset Management module, it is possible to automatically create a pending asset record when a purchase order is placed for an asset item, but there is no matching functionality for production orders. Some businesses have an asset-centric process where they will produce assets and then install and maintain them at customer locations, so the ability to convert a production order to an asset would help streamline this process.

The new multisourcing functionality allows you to split purchases between multiple vendors on the same item, but it will send the same net requirement all to the same vendor. Some businesses have the requirement to split the next requirements based on the multi-sourcing policies instead of keeping the whole requirement together.

Currently the only filters on input for Planning Optimization are related to which items should be included in the planning run or whether the forecast should be included (plan filters, runtime filters, coverage groups, etc.) but some businesses have scenarios in addition where they want to exclude certain data from being included. For example, a particular sales order or set of orders, certain forecast lines, or other criteria that may be specific to a business or industry.

In classic master planning, this is something that can be customized, but Planning Optimization only supports extensions for post-processing (Planning Optimization extensibility - Supply Chain Management | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn). It would help more users adopt Planning Optimization if there was either a framework for doing more unique input filters or the ability to migrate their extensions to be compatible with Planning Optimization.

Currently Planning Optimization does not support items that have planned order type of "kanban" which is used in the Lean manufacturing functionality. Any users who have this requirement are blocked from adopting Planning Optimization
