Increase the size of the Reference and Distribution Reference fields

Suggested by Michael WeaverUnder Review 5
    Category: Financials - General Ledger

Both reference and distribution reference fields in GP's GL can only handle a maximum of 30 characters. I understand why these fields were kept relatively small when the product was developed in the early 90's, but 25 years later my customers expect a little more space to write descriptive information. I suggest 50-100 characters would be more appropriate and certainly more useful.

NOTE: I have the same suggestion for the "Description" field on the Payables Transaction Entry window (also 30 char max), and probably many other fields in GP, but the GL ones seem to be the biggest problem for my customers.

Add user-defined fields to Transaction Entry

Add at least 2 text user-defined fields (at least 20 characters) to Transaction Entry (entering journal entries). This is a very common request from our clients

    Automate FULL (multi-year) reconcile

    Suggested by Thomas GarciaNew 1
    Category: Financials - General Ledger

The GL Reconcile is a very common process that is required under many circumstances.  It is very tedious to reconcile "the right way" which is to do it one year at a time from oldest to earliest historical years first, then repeat the process for the open years.

I think it would be very simple to have an option to execute a Full (all historical + all open years) reconcile. The related window is Financial > Utilities > Reconcile.

The ability to create batches for Bank Transactions. Important to add this for being able to check data entry prior to post and for segregation of duties.

Journal Entry Inquiry - User Who Posted

    Suggested by Kyle MaloneNew 0
    Category: Financials - General Ledger

Please add the field 'User who posted' to the Journal Entry Inquiry window in GP. This is one of the most requested fields for managers & auditors and having to generate a report (whether it be a posting journal or smartlist) to pull the field is not preferable.

Limit Excel Copy/Paste Decimals Places to Currency Setup

    Suggested by Charlie SavkoNew 0
    Category: Financials - General Ledger

It is possible to do an Excel copy/paste for more than decimal places than the currency is setup for. These do not show in the UI, which is misleading, however, the extra values are in the GL10001 table. These will also post, if balanced.

At the very least, an error should be thrown for entries that exceed the decimal places.

Don't ask to add new account when the lookup is engaged in Account maintenace

    Suggested by Dawn PrigmoreNew 1
    Category: Financials - General Ledger

In the majority of lookup windows, you can type in the first several characters of the ID before doing a lookup, and when you select the desired record from the lookup window, it brings you back to the maintenance window and populates with the selected record.  If you take those same steps in the account maintenance window, you are asked if you want to save the record (the few characters you typed prior to going to the lookup).  If the lookup is engaged after typing the characters, it should not ask if you want to save that record when you return to the window.
