Description

Recently, our organization noticed that lookup hyperlinks displayed in Dynamics 365 model-driven app views became underlined across all environments and tenants. The change did not impact functionality, but it altered the visual presentation of the application.

While this may be an intentional accessibility improvement or user experience enhancement, it was difficult to determine:

  • Whether the change was introduced by Microsoft
  • When the change was deployed
  • Whether it was a global rollout or tenant-specific behavior
  • Whether any release note, Message Center post, or official communication described the change

We understand that not every UI enhancement is considered a major feature update. However, even small presentation changes can generate support cases and concern among administrators because users often perceive unexpected visual changes as defects or configuration issues.

Suggestion:

Microsoft could provide a dedicated section in release notes, Message Center announcements, or platform update communications for "UI and Presentation Changes" that includes minor design updates such as:

  • Hyperlink styling changes
  • Layout adjustments
  • Icon updates
  • Grid/UI rendering changes
  • Accessibility-related visual enhancements
  • Color, spacing, or typography updates

This would help administrators:

  • Quickly identify whether a visual change is expected
  • Reduce unnecessary support investigations
  • Better communicate platform changes to end users
  • Improve transparency around ongoing UI modernization efforts

The goal is not to prevent accessibility improvements or UI enhancements. In fact, underlined hyperlinks may be beneficial from an accessibility perspective because they make interactive elements easier to identify. Rather, the request is to improve visibility and communication of these types of changes so organizations can understand what has changed and why.

Business Impact:

  • Unexpected UI changes, even when working as designed, can result in:
  • Time spent investigating non-functional issues
  • User confusion and concern regarding unexpected platform behavior
  • Difficulty differentiating between product updates and actual defects

Improved transparency around UI updates would help administrators and support teams respond more effectively when such changes occur.
