Option to Hard Link Unit of Measure (UoM) to Subscription Package Lines to ensure Billing Integrity
Problem Statement:
Currently, in the Subscription Billing module (v28.0), there is a functional disconnect between the Unit of Measure (UoM) selected on a Sales Order and the Billing Rhythm/Notice Period defined in the Subscription Package Lines. While "Unit of Measure Filters" can be applied to package lines, they act as a selection filter rather than a binding constraint. This allows for potential inconsistencies where a "Yearly" UoM could theoretically be processed using a "Monthly" billing rhythm if filters are misconfigured or ignored.
Proposed Solution:
Microsoft should provide an option to explicitly link a Unit of Measure to a Subscription Package Line.
- Validation: When a UoM is selected on a Sales Order, the system should only allow the triggering of Subscription Package Lines that are explicitly mapped to that UoM.
- Automation: If a single UoM is linked to a specific Package Line (e.g., UoM 'YEAR' linked to a '12M' Billing Rhythm), that line should be automatically selected, reducing manual error.
- Data Integrity: This link would ensure that the billing frequency, initial terms, and notice periods are always logically aligned with the unit being sold (e.g., you cannot sell an "Annual" unit and accidentally bill it "Monthly").
Business Value:
This enhancement would significantly improve Billing Accuracy and reduce the risk of financial discrepancies in recurring revenue contracts. It simplifies the setup for partners and ensures that the "Subscription Package" remains a robust, error-proof template for complex billing scenarios.
