A client reported an error when attempting to assign a serial / lot no. on an inventory put-away on a location using bins. Upon further investigation, the issue is related to the Warehouse Tracking is not enabled when the item tracking code was setup. the SN (Lot) Specific Tracking is checked which then auto check all other fields except the Warehouse Tracking.

I opened a support ticket with Microsoft, the suggested options to resolve this issue where client needs to view serial / lot no. by bin are:

  • Option 1: Turn off Require Put-away and use Warehouse Receipts. Drawbacks to this process will be you have no lot/serial tracking at the warehouse level and you lose the process flow at the warehouse level. The items themselves would have the tracking in the Item Ledger Entries, but not on warehosue entries (bins).
  • Option 2: Bring inventory down to zero, set up replacement Items with correct tracking code configuration, and post Positive Adjustments to the new replacement item.

These are not viable options, support engineer suggested creating an idea to auto-enable the Warehosue Tracking when the SN (Lot) Specific Tracking is checked. This will overcome this issue if / when client decides to use bin in future, if bins are not used there is no harm to enable this tracking.
