There are no Find columns set on the Account entity when presented with a possible duplicate Account. - therefore all records were being displayed inside the lookup control and filtering do not work and you have to manually scroll down through all records to find the Account you are looking for.

By adding a Search column in to this view by default, the search is quick and simple. Thus reducing the potential for a user to bypass this search as it is so time consuming and manual.
