A note or batch/serial number from a level 0 item to be passed to a lower level item in BOM structure. In the case where a customer requests a custom attribute (graphic, text, ect..) there could be a way that demand can be driven to a lower material requirement. An example would be that custom lettering could be specified on a sales order. That information could be an inventory dimension that is passed along multiple levels of marked BOM's to a purchase order so that the purchase order, welding, painting and packing are all aware of the custom lettering (or serial) that a particular order is associated with.
