When the cost of a job ledger entry is adjusted, the job leder entry itself is updated, there is no new entry posted.

However if the adjustment has another posting date, that means the posting date of the job ledger entry does not match the posting dateS of the value entries and G/L entries.

Example:

On 15-9-2022 an item is produced as output on a production order, and posted as usage on a job.

Posted entries:

- item ledger entry of type output with posting date 15-9-2022

- value entry for above item ledger entry with posting date 15-9-2022

- G/L entries for above value entry with posting date 15-9-2022

- job ledger entry of type usage with posting date 15-9-2022

- item ledger entry of type neg. adjustment with posting date 15-9-2022

- value entry for above item ledger entry with posting date 15-9-2022

- G/L entries for above value entry with posting date 15-9-2022

On 4-10-2022 the production order is set to finished (after posting additional costs) with posting date 1-10-2022.

Posted/updated entries:

- extra value entry for the item ledger entry of type output, with posting date 1-10-2022

- G/L entries for above value entry with posting date 1-10-2022

- extra value entry for the item ledger entry of type neg. adjustment, with posting date 1-10-2022

- G/L entries for above value entry with posting date 1-10-2022

- existing job ledger entry is updated tot the new unit cost, posting date remains 15-9-2022.

This means the job ledger entries in September and October don't match what is posted to G/L in September and October.

Wouldn't it be better to change the posting routine so that instead of updating the job ledger entry, an extra job ledger entry is posted with the new posting date, but with a link to the original job ledger enry?

Also, the posting date of the value entries, G/L entries and new job ledger entries should follow the inventory periods.
