Our company manufactures and distributes fastening solutions, which are customized into subsequent "levels" as follows:
1. A screw can have different surface treatments.
2. A screw may or may not have a washer - and if it's with a washer, then it can have different types of washer.
3. A screw can have different colors.
4. A screw can be packed in different quantities - e.g. 100 pcs/box, 250 pcs/box
5. A pack of screws can have different customer labels.
As of today, we have an item number for each level because it is not possible to specify unit of measure on product variant and to be able to make-to-stock each level.
We would like to have one item number for a product and use the other product dimensions such as size for the packing sizes.
Is this something that Microsoft is developing?
