Set a toggle or a default inventory status on a location to allow it to be nettable, but not reservable to a sales order, transfer order, or production order. Do this without blocking the input or output of the location so that parts may be freely moved into and out of a location via inventory movement work. This will prevent loads from being created with no work, and reservations being made against parts in blocked locations, which makes moving the inventory a cumbersome task.

For our business case, we have locations for damaged goods and QA inspection. These can usually be handled by managing the inventory status, but if an employee forgets to set the inventory status, we can run into serious problems reserving damaged goods for orders. Batch jobs wont work due to the frequency of operations at our company.

The option of using inventory statuses does make sense, but for a business where hundreds of locations are used, and 1/3 of them are used for production pick/PO putaway staging...and the locations which should allow reservations are used to fulfill transfer/sales/production orders, having a status that works with all three doesn't seem like a great solution. Why can't there just be a flag on the location that controls reservations?

I was directed to this ticket by 'Stop allocation (Reservation) from specific locations'I would like to clarify clear my buisness case. Our customer has 17 locations. In the most location the work is very well organized, for this location are reservation entry. For the smaller location, that see the same item, it would be easier to work without reservation. In BC Standard, you can set the reservation field only in the item card. It would be better to make the setup in the Stock Keeping Unit or to override the setup for reservation in the location.

Another option to solve this issue would be to use inventory status : receipts could be made on Inventor status = Receipt while sales orders would look for stock with Inventory status = Available. Unfortunately today they share the same default value, or the sales orders and transfers orders are not automatically filled-in...
Indeed there is only a check box to ask for sales orders and transfer orders to use the same default Inventory status as the purchase orders, while if they had their own default status it would prevent reservation on inbound location at least.
