Background Information:
We have multiple physical stores that we have set up with the following locations:
Storage - A01
Receiving - RECV01
Quarantine - QUAR01
Shipping - SHIP01
This setup allows us to sell out of our single storage location (A01) and works for the majority of our locations. It is difficult, however, managing inventory and cycle counts when we have to put all of our inventory in a single location and can't divide it up into smaller more manageable locations.
We have 1 main warehouse (distribution center) that contains significantly more inventory and we have multiple locations:
Storage - A01, A02, A03... A18 (18 storage locations)
Receiving - RECV01
Quarantine - QUAR01
Packing - PACK01
Shipping - SHIP01
This distribution center has advanced warehousing functionality enabled and we pick, pack and ship online orders out of this warehouse. It also has a POS machine at this location for physical transactions.
Problem: POS transactions only reduce inventory from a single location. This means we have to physically move inventory into the default storage location (A01) prior to every single transaction that we want to run out of this POS/store.
Idea: Physical stores should have the ability to sell out of more than a single location. The logic for having a single default storage location is restrictive not only for customer transactions, but the ability to perform cycle counts and manage inventory effectively.
We are a small-scale store compared to some of the larger retailers and we are still having trouble managing our inventory and having to perform extra steps to move our inventory to the default storage location for every transaction that consumes a significant amount of time/effort.
Thank you!
