The documentation available on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamicsax-2012/appuser-itpro/example-balanced-accounting-entry-for-interunit-accounting related to interunit accounting is not accurate. In fact it creates two inter-unit transactions even though one of the transactions have the same dimension value that matches with the dimension value on the offset side of the entry.

The referenced documentation is correct.  The example shows the following accounting entry (where the second segment is the balancing segment):

6100 – MSP – OU_256

                             100.00 DR

6100 – NY – OU_249

                             100.00 DR

2100 – MSP – OU_256

                             200.00 CR

MSP is found on more than one line of the accounting entry, but it's not balanced.  NY is also not balanced.  That is why the following additional lines are added to balance the dimension values:

Interunit DueFrom – MSP – OU_256

100.00 DR

Interunit DueTo – NY – OU_249

100.00 CR
