Shopify has some very customer-friendly solutions if a customer wants to change their order. It's easy to remove/add items from an order, obtain any new payment etc.
Everyone we know loves this Shopify feature. But it’s a huge headache when the order has landed in BC. Because everyone wants a sales order to be automatically created in BC, since it’s only then that the item is “reserved” from the inventory in BC. But once a sales order has been created in BC, it can no longer be changed from the Shopify side!
BC sends available inventory back to Shopify, and most people have multiple sales channels that draw from the same inventory. So it’s super important to have the most up-to-date available inventory all around. I don’t see why a change to an order in Shopify couldn’t update an open sales order in BC, just like it’s possible to do manually?! It’s only when a BC sales order is released (and maybe handed over to picking) that it becomes locked.
If this could be made to work, we know a lot of people who would be very happy. Because as it stands today, it leads to a lot of errors due to orders not being correctly updated in both systems.
