Product configuration can be performed from several forms in D365FO; e.g. sales order line by function configure product. Then you can but in parameter in the UI and configure the product.

Problem is, that this can only be done in the UI manually. There is now way to to configuration automatically in batch without using the UI in the form.

It is often necessary to generate configurations in background e.g. if data comes (including the parameters for configuration) from EDI or a WEBShop or other interfaces. Also a import for configured products would be helpful e.g. for datamigration.

So the idea is to get a function configure product in batch/backround.
