Work orders in D365 Field Service allows a user to mark inventory as decremented by changing the status of a work order line from Estimated to Used.

It is assumed here that D365 Field Service is implemented alongside D365 SCM. The FS work order is created in SCM as a sales order for the purpose of Inventory planning and customer invoicing. Dual write is the current expected technology to manage this integration, Work orders will be immediately interfaced to SCM for visibility in master planning, i.e. before inventory is decremented.

Inventory is managed in SCM (master).

There is an expectation that the following integration should be native:

- Inventory Visibility will allow users in FS to consult inventory levels.

- It should be possible (option) to create an IV soft reservation for the inventory in FS.

- Change of status of the FS Work order line to Used should create an Inventory adjustment in Inventory Visibility and offset the soft reservation if one exists.

- The IV Inventory adjustment should be interfaced to SCM through dual write.

- When picking, packing slip posting or invoicing posting occurs in D365 the IV inventory adjustment should be offset.

If negative physical inventory is not enabled for the item in SCM then the soft reservation and Inventory adjustment operations in FS should be blocked if inventory would go negative. An extra parameter could exist in FS to turn on/off blocking of negative inventory by IV.
