Idea Description

After upgrading to Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management version 10.0.46, the Inventory BOM Journal line numbering mechanism began behaving incorrectly.

When entering BOM journal lines:

• The first line is created correctly with Line number = 1.
• When adding the next line, the system automatically inserts a new line but assigns an incorrect negative line number (e.g., -1) instead of continuing the normal positive sequence.
• Any additional lines continue following this negative numbering pattern (e.g., -2, -3, …).

This behavior did not occur before the upgrade and creates:

• Data inconsistency
• User confusion
• Reduced reliability during BOM journal entry
• Increased risk of errors during production recording and costing processes

Business Impact

This issue directly affects operational accuracy when creating BOM journals, especially for organizations with high-volume or daily BOM adjustments. Users rely on correct line sequencing for validation, auditing, and downstream production processes. The negative numbering pattern introduces unnecessary complications and can lead to processing mistakes.

Requested Fix

Ensure that all new BOM journal lines follow the standard positive sequential numbering pattern (1, 2, 3, …) instead of generating negative values.
