It's a good thing you finally got alerts back into the system with the spring release but you missed one very important feature on the alerts - the ability to add a query/filter on which records to apply an alert to. Now you can only set an alert for all records or the marked record, in 2012 it was possible to add a filter so you could restrict the alert to only apply for records relevant for the user, e.g. alert me for all purchase orders in a specific order pool missing which has passed confirmed date and not yet received.

This capability already exists with the Alerts feature. When you choose to create an alert for 'All records', it is actually basing that on the set of filter conditions currently defined on the form. See the Conditions section of Create alerts for more details.

We have too many use cases for this, please consider it! We are considering writing our own extension to the alerts framework due to it's importance.

In case people are not aware, there are some filtering options available for alerts in D365FO.

"The filtering process for Alerts has been drastically improved in D365F&O. To avoid the complexities in using the SysQueryForm, user defined Alert Rules are now scoped to the displayed list of object’s in the active form view. For instance, if interested in creating an Alert rule for a subset of Customers, simply use the Advanced Filters to display only the customers you’re interested in tracking before defining the Alert Rule. As a result, the Alert Rule will only be triggered by activity associated with objects included in the active view."

Another example is that you often want to set an alert for a specific type of record. E.f. you want to set an alert for all sales orders that have been created two days ago but not have been fully delivered yet....

It is important to know that the filter-functionality in AX 2012 many companies almost could not do without.

Example:
If you want an alert for when sales line price is set to zero, but only when quantity is positive – or alert when certain fields are updated on sales order created by yourself , this was possible in AX2012.

I strongly recommend this feature, as the workaround with tiles with count in workspaces will not alert fast enough.
