The current situation is that to change a Dimension Group on a Released Product you first need to ensure that there is no inventory/stock in the system and ensure that there are no open inventory/stock transactions. This requires a fair bit of analysis up front and then, potentially, a fair bit of work to back out stock and open transactions. All of that needs to be committed to the system via an Inventory Close. Then a standard function can be used to update the Dimension Group. Finally the removed inventory/stock values need to be readded along with the deleted open inventory/stock transactions.

This currently supported process does work but is prone to human error (misskeying the records post correction) and the length of time this process takes can cause issues within the legal entity as they are unable to process any inventory/stock transactions for items that are to change during this time.

The proposed solution is to provide a feature where an item, or items, can be selected and the new Storage and/or Tracking Dimension Group values provided. The proposed solution will identify any blocking data, clear that blocking data, make the dimension group change before readding the original blocking data records so that the final position matches the starting position all-be-it with different dimension group value(s).
