Once an item is used, it is not possible (without development effort) to require the item to have an Item Tracking Code to use Lot/SN's. A routine should be created that allows previously used items without an Item Tracking Code to be updated to use an Item Tracking Code.

The effort is fairly simple. The routine requests a Lot/SN to be attached to the existing OPEN records (for example, this can be incremented via the Lot No's/Serial No's fields on the Item Card). Once enabled, users can use the reclass journal to properly set the Lot/SN's on existing inventory.

This removes a LOT of friction with customers that start with a simple system and evolve into a more mature, advanced inventory system.

Hi David, have you done an Item reclassification through development, some of our products have been FDA reclassified and require Lot Number Tracking. @ Business Central Team upvote this suggestion!
