Can the sales tax amount extracted through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) from vendor invoices or documents be configured to transfer into Microsoft Dynamics 365 as a standard sales tax entry, rather than being classified as an imported sales tax?
Currently, when the OCR process captures sales tax data, it is brought into D365 as an "imported" tax line. However, this classification may lead to discrepancies in tax reporting, validation rules, or downstream accounting processes—especially if the organization relies on standard D365 tax codes and configurations for accurate tax calculations, compliance reporting, and financial auditing.
By transferring the OCR-captured tax as a standard D365 sales tax, we can:
- Leverage existing tax code setup and validation rules.
- Ensure consistency across all transactions for financial reporting.
- Avoid issues with tax reconciliation or posting logic that may treat imported taxes differently.
- Maintain compliance with jurisdiction-specific tax regulations supported by D365's native tax engine.
