When a Lead is promoted to an Opportunity new Account and Contact records are created "by design." If you have a duplicate detection rule set up a dialog box is displayed, warning of possible duplicates for Accounts or Contacts.

There should be a set up option that forces the user to pick an active Account and Contact to be in compliance with the duplicate rule. As we all know, users will break the rule and create new Accounts and Contacts. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE. HELP!

The duplicate detection jobs don't really work on our rule based on duplicate emails only and running a report to show duplicates is too late - the horse has left the barn so to speak

The request was to simply require the employee to pick a entity so a duplicate would be avoided. The duplicate issue is a strategic business rule at our company. Following your suggestion, why do you have any coding to require a field in a form? I also do not like your flippant retort about replacing valuable employees because your software does not allow a suggested required field. Perhaps if there is a software problem we might replace the software! I expect better from Microsoft, that is why we chose to upgrade to CRM2013 instead of using a competitor. Were we wrong?

Thank You for the feedback. Microsoft Dynamics Marketing service (formerly MarketingPilot) is our primary Marketing Automation solution in our product portfolio with majority of our investments directed accordingly. We will be closing this request - do review our Spring release to review if lead behavior for duplicates meets your use case. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/crm-marketing.aspx

As we all know users are supposed to be more intelligent than machines, so it is assumed that they are in a better position to determine if a duplicate is really the same record or just a very similar one. Perhaps there really are two people called John Doe who work at the same office of Megacorp Plc, and if we don't have an email address for one or the other a computer is not going to be 100% accurate about the judgement being made. When users turn out not to be more intelligent than the machines they control, or they just create duplicates all the time without any cares, you have a user training and/or employability issue. If there is a computer problem, you might replace the computer. User problem...do likewise?
