For users who mostly work in the left navigation entities, the new Modern Advanced Find is a great feature. It removes the need to navigate to other UIs and reduce the need to navigate away from what they're working on.

However, for users that frequently use entities not in the left nav, in order to manage or share their views, they must click into Search first, which they are not finding to be intuitive. Our findings in user testing thus far is that users see Search as locating one or more records belonging to a specific keyword or simple search. Advanced Find is used for more complex queries and intended to locate multiple records that meet criteria for purposes of reporting and/or tactical work such as working through an opportunity list of high value opportunities to add activities.

For those entities that are not in the left navigation, users must now navigate through the Search bar to select the entity before they can create, edit, or share a view. For operations and support users, this is their daily work and now they must go through a non-intuitive interface to locate the entities they need. If they navigate away from it by clicking into another nav item, they must go through the whole process again (Search > Click link > Select Entity) to get back to their non-left nav entity grid. Even though the previous Advanced Find required multiple clicks as well, the Funnel icon let users know they were going to their reporting section.

ASK

  1. Please provide a way for users to access entities that are not in the left nav more easily without having to track back through Search each time.
  2. Please provide a more intuitive option for users to find how to build a grid view/report when the entities they need are not in the left navigation.
