A recent version of GP (maybe 18.3) added Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) compatibility for some email functionality. That helps, but it still doesn't work when emailing out a report (specifically print to screen, and then email that out). That still pops up the legacy authentication dialogue which will not work for Exchange Online that requires MFA.

Because of this, we cannot use GP to email out various reports (saving to PDF and using Outlook to manually send them out is not a good workaround).

Microsoft is enabling MFA on all newly created Microsoft 365 Tenants and pushing all existing Tenants to enable it. Microsoft is going to disable basic authentication for virtually all Exchange online protocols in October of this year. Please make it a priority to bring MFA compatibility to all Email functionality in GP.
