The Hyper-V virtual machines for the CRM 2013 Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) ILT courses were built on Windows Server 2012 and therefore will only run on Hyper-V hosts on Windows Server 2012, and to some extend Windows 8. The Microsoft Learning Partners are already invested in Hyper-V hosted on Windows Server 2008 & R2 which would also work for CRM 2013 if the VM had been originally created in 2008. Request alternative versions based on Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 also be made available via the Microsoft Certified Trainer Downloads

The VHDs do work on Server 2008 but you have to create your own VMs - in other words, add a new virtual machine by hand using the MOC VHD. Trying to import the machines won't work but at least the workaround is not too bad.
