Dynamics 365 Marketing app deployment needs a serious overhaul.
The two areas described below are cause for much frustration both as a consultant and our customers.
1. Number of solutions being deployed
Installing D365 Marketing app in a new organization brings a total of 82 different solutions.
Possible solutions:
- Consolidate solutions
- Hide solutions deployed by installing apps in admin center, either by views or don't list in general because "App" is in it self administered from PowerPlatform Admin Center
- Create smarter and better views for solutions
2. Number of different Security Roles available for Marketing app
Marketing App brings at least a total of 35 new security roles. Working with security roles in general is painful, so many choices and attributes. More than a few of these roles seems to be overlapping. For a customer to maintain assignment of roles is nearly impossible. Most customers want this to be easy and intuitive. If you deploy Sales Ent. App and Marketing you get a total of 117 security roles automatically...
Possible solutions:
- Consolidate Security Roles, If you work with Marketing chances are that you need alot of them
- Remove specific security roles for service accounts
- In general MS should limit the number of Security Roles Being deployed with Apps and "out-of-the-box". Perhaps make "default" MS Deployed security roles more like Currency, where you can pick up additional roles if needed.
