The Engineering Change Management feature introduces the version dimension for tracking versions. We implemented Dynamics 365 before this new dimension was available to track the version. Thus, we chose to use the style version to track the version of the product.
We would like to use the Engineering Change Management feature, but it is not tenable at this time to simply switch to using the version dimension with the customer already live in the system for some time.
The request is to allow for changing the dimension Engineering Change Management uses to use the style dimension instead of the version.

Engineering Change Management functionality is based on the version dimension, based of the functionality and created for this purpose. Therefore, we will decline the idea of it working with style dimension as it is not intended to do so.
We would consider this as an exceptional case and not the norm, not generic functionality. If needed, you could migrate the products to be using the version dimension instead of the style dimension.
