Planning Optimization currently generates planned orders with dates earlier than the required demand date, even when no clear planning constraints (such as lead times, safety stock, or capacity limitations) justify advancing the order.
The reason we see an earlier date than the expected is the fact that PLOP does not support "Standard receipt time" unlike Classic MRP hence the different in behavior and results
This behavior can cause confusion for planners and results in:
- Misaligned supply and demand dates
- Manual rescheduling of planned orders
- Reduced trust in Planning Optimization recommendations
- Increased planning effort, especially in environments with tight delivery commitments
From a business perspective, planners expect Planning Optimization to respect the Standard Receipt Time and only suggest earlier orders when there is a transparent and justifiable reason (for example, lead time constraints, calendar restrictions, or capacity issues).
Expected Behavior
- Planned orders should align with the actual requirement date whenever possible.
- When an order must be planned earlier, the system should:
- Clearly reflect the underlying constraint (lead time, calendar, capacity, etc.)
- Provide transparency into why the earlier date was chosen
