When using items that require serial number tracking upon outbound in the sales process, standard D365 allows you to specify the serial number in following cases:
- Picking list registration
- Packing slip posting
- Invoice posting
- Picking work execution via mobile device

However, it is not possible to specify the serial numbers when picking directly on the sales order line (Update line > Pick). The serial numbers defined here should be reflected on the packing slip and invoice as is the case when registering them in the picking list registration.

This would allow to perform the process in simplified way and split responsibilities between picking operators and supervisor creating packing slips. It would also mean that all picking scenarios can support this functionality.
