Today, the Bin Content page (7304) and Bin Contents List page (7305) only display Item No. — there is no Item Description column. Warehouse users have to drill into the item card or rely on memorizing item numbers to know what is actually stored in a bin.
This is especially painful on the Business Central phone client, where only the most important fields are shown by default and screen real estate is extremely limited.
Business case
Warehouse staff, inventory planners, and supervisors use these pages every day to verify stock, plan replenishment, locate items, and answer ad-hoc availability questions. Item numbers like "I000896" are not human-readable, and many customers use sequential or supplier-driven numbering schemes that give no contextual meaning at all.
On desktop, this means a constant drill-into-item-card workflow. On phone (BC mobile app), it is even worse: warehouse workers walking the floor see only Item No. and Quantity — the very field that would tell them what they are looking at is missing entirely. They cannot identify items without drilling into each line, which defeats the purpose of using a mobile client at the bin.
Proposed solution
- Add an Item Description field as a FlowField on the Bin Content table (7302), sourced from the Item table where Item No. matches.
- Surface the field as a visible-by-default column on:
- Page 7304 — Bin Content
- Page 7305 — Bin Contents List
- Crucially: set the field's
Importanceproperty toPromotedso it is shown by default in the phone/tablet client, where only Promoted fields appear in the narrow list view. Item Description is arguably more important than several fields currently shown by default — the page should be usable on a phone without requiring personalization.
