The use of step consumption on a BOM/formula line greatly reduces the number of BOMs/formulas to maintain. For example, if I have 10 formulary items and just one component on the formulas varies based on the number of liters produced from 1 to 10 in steps of 1, I will only need 10 formulas using step consumption. If I use different formulas for each "From quantity" instead of step consumption, I will need 100 formulas. Ten times as many! This can add up quickly and create the potential for hand entry errors, because I have to update 10 formulas for one item rather than just one formula. Please continue to include Step consumption functionality in Planning Optimization.

We have so many Production BOM/Routes set up with per-step consumption, that the lack of this feature is a blocker for us to move from legacy master planning to the optimization engine.
