Disabling export to Excel on specific lists is sometimes required by customers. The ability to export or not data for specific lists should be defined on application level or through system setup.
Especially for Europe, GDPR imposes restrictions for data export. In this context, being able to define if data can be extracted to Excel or not, would be a nice feature.

Good news! We released this feature as part of the functionality in Disable export of data to Excel.
Instead of disabling Excel on specific lists, you will be able to choose which users cannot Open in Excel or Edit in Excel across the application.

Please refer to the following link for more information:

Dear Mike Borg Cardona

As you can see, it is not asked to disable both functions at once. We want to Export in Excel and Edit in Excel as defined separately.

Please re-open this idea as we are waiting since 2020...

Hi Microsoft Team,
could you please reopen this idea as you can read in the comments it is not enough to disable the function in general for a user but to define it per page.

Another business case where I want to hide the standard functionality is when I need to export the data in a special format to excel (perhaps with some modification) and therefore I create a own report to do the export and add it as a function to the page.

Hi,

You MUST provide a way to disable the export Excel button on any page, programmatically.

Some suggestions could be to

- add a page property page to switch off the export capacity
- add a table field property to forbid the export of a specific column (column will not be taken in account in the export)

Users always need to work data in Excel but certains data are too sensible to enable export of everything by standard user.

Also, the windows copy function (CTRL + C) on a list can only copy 50 or 300 lines.
Again, you think technical and not User...

Would you like to open all your own server data to anyone ?

The proposed solution as explained here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2020wave1/dynamics365-business-central/disable-export-data-excel is in my opinion not flexible enough.

I would like to
* Disable Export and Edit apart from each other
* Explicitly disable or enable Export and Edit per page with a pageextension with a setting

Please remember to enable Open in Excel in journals such as all journals - I'll just mention Phys. Inventory Journal page 392 as a good example where Microsoft forgot it. Please do make it admin-configurable or developer configurable if you do decide to remove "Open in Excel" from various lists due to GDPR
