Current behavior

When multiple Assembly Output entries are posted using the same Lot Number, the Item Tracing page creates a separate trace path for each assembly output. As a result, downstream transactions such as Sales Shipments are displayed repeatedly under each assembly output branch.

Although the underlying Item Ledger Entries and inventory applications are correct, the repeated display of the same Sales Shipment in multiple trace paths can be difficult to interpret. Users may incorrectly assume that quantities have been duplicated or overconsumed because the shipment quantity is shown under every relevant trace path.

For example:

• Assembly Output A00001 = 88 units (Lot LOT0002)
• Assembly Output A00002 = 88 units (Lot LOT0002)
• Assembly Output A00003 = 50 units (Lot LOT0002)

A Sales Shipment consuming 185 units from the shared lot is displayed under all three trace branches. While technically correct from a traceability perspective, users can interpret the displayed quantities as duplicated because the same shipment appears multiple times in the trace tree.

Business impact

Customers reviewing traceability data may conclude that inventory quantities are incorrect even though the Item Ledger Entries and item applications are accurate. This creates confusion during audits, quality investigations, inventory reviews, and support activities.

Suggested enhancement

Provide an optional visualization mode or additional indicators on the Item Tracing page when multiple source entries share the same lot number. Examples include:

• A consolidated trace view that groups shared-lot transactions.
• A visual indicator that a transaction is displayed in multiple trace paths.
• A tooltip or informational message explaining that the same sales shipment is being shown under multiple assembly outputs due to shared lot tracing.
• An option to suppress duplicate display of downstream documents and show them only once in a summarized view.

Expected benefit

Improve the readability of Item Tracing results and reduce confusion while preserving the existing traceability logic and inventory application functionality.

Business Value

Makes Item Tracing easier to understand when shared lot numbers are used across multiple assembly outputs, reducing misinterpretation of quantities and minimizing support and audit effort.

Repro Steps

1. Create multiple Assembly Orders for the same item.
2. Post Assembly Outputs using the same Lot Number.
3. Consume inventory from that lot through a Sales Shipment.
4. Open Item Tracing.
5. Run trace from Origin → Usage.
6. Observe that the same Sales Shipment appears under multiple assembly output branches and may appear to represent duplicated quantities.

Expected Result

Users can clearly distinguish between actual inventory consumption and repeated trace-path visualization.

Actual Result

The same downstream shipment is displayed under multiple trace paths, which can be interpreted as duplicated or inflated quantities even though inventory applications are correct.

This framing gives Product Group the best chance of accepting it as an enhancement request rather than rejecting it as a by-design behavior.
