There should be a replacement for dialogs that would be easy to use and to build. In UCI we're moving away from modal forms that we can use the right pane to display forms. We've advertising the usage os canvas apps to replace dialogs, there could be an out-of-the-box integration to display a canvas app or any other replacement for what used to be a dialog.
