Production flows of our customer consider minimum lots: this could be hard to manage at the current condition because MRP plans transfer orders taking into account the minimum quantity that instead must be considered only for production order.

Example, if we produce an item A with a minimum lots of 1000 pcs, and we ship this item to an our subcontractor to assembly it into a finish good, we don’t want that the MRP plan a transfer order of 1000 pcs, we desire a transfer order only for the quantity required for the assembly order for the finish good, example 30 pcs. To make that MRP correctly plans, we had to separate the order quantity for production, versus the order quantity for transfer order.

The goal is to modify the logics of master planning to manage separately the inventory quantity for a production order versus the quantity for a transfer order.

As partner, we did a customization for our customers, in which we have duplicated the inventory quantity fields on the default order settings.

This idea is to ask if it is possible to move this solutions in Planning Optimization.

Hi Matteo,

I recognize this Problem as well. I hope finally others will vote also !!

We did this customization with AX2012 customers as well but currently D365 customer also has this request.

We did not want to do customization currently because of problem when using Planning Optimization but the need is really clear and it is still a common problem.

Our D365 customer scenario:

Customer is Production company but also has a Field service team to support existing customers

  • Production min qty and multiples is 100pcs in Production internal Warehouse
  • Need in Service Van 'Warehouses' (which is actually a service van with limited storage) min 2 max 5pcs

(There are about 10 Service Vans with their own Warehouse number for refilling setup)

Problem:

Now MRP suggests transfer order requirement of 10x 100pcs instead of 10x 2 to 5pcs

This results in additional Production order Requirements to cover these incorrect Transfer quantities

This results in additional Planned Purchase order suggestions for the 10x100 Production order BOMs needs

-> Customer/planner cannot rely on planned order quantities

-> Either Production suggestion is wrong or Transfer suggestion is wrong or refilling needs to be checked manually

I believe D365FO should be able to support such a common scenario
