Asset management, Change asset type -Append Attribute list to delete the attributes of old asset type

When changing asset type the attribute list is of new asset type is added to asset with Append Attributes. The attribute list of old asset type remains on the asset. Could the attribute list of old asset type be deleted when adding the new one.
