For some customers, sales orders with a cancellation status cannot be deleted due to compliance requirements. Each cancellation is tied to a specific cancellation reason, which is legally and operationally controlled, meaning these records must remain available for audit purposes. At the same time, cancelled orders are still relevant for business reporting. They are used in financial KPI calculations, particularly around unrealized sales, where net amounts and unit counts from cancelled transactions provide insight into lost demand, operational inefficiencies, or customer behavior trends.
Because these orders continue to grow over time (for Commerce customers), they represent a significant volume of data in the system. Extending the data archival framework to handle cancelled sales orders would preserve compliance and reporting integrity while reducing system load.
