In the current version of Business Central release 23.2, if we wish to import master data or transactional data en-masse, we have to assign primary key (Code, Number) in the upload file manually. I tried assigning just the No. Series by exporting the relevant field in the excel template and keeping the No. field blank. Upon importing and applying the data, the system did create the new record in the system and picked the next available no. available in the no. series however weirdly enough, it created the record twice. I tried doing this multiple times but the same outcome. I reckon this might be a bug but I might be wrong. I asked the technical consultant to look into the code however not much came of it as he said this is the natural behavior as per the code written by Microsoft.

This would be a very crucial addition/fix if implemented, as users/partners could import master or transactional data in bulk without worrying if they've selected the next available number or not.

Thanks.

Let me clarify this with an example, if I have additional no. series for Vendor Master and I wish to import vendors for the sub categories rather than the main no. series that is typically assigned in the Purchase & Payables setup, I'd have to first remove the record from No. Series line table for the main series so that it doesn't pick the next number from it. Then, in. the configuration package, I export the template with No. Series field. I keep the No. field blank and add the Vendor Name, posting groups etc in the relevant fields and assign the sub no. series in the No. series column in the template. When I import and apply the data, the system creates each record twice by assigning 2 sequential numbers per record.
