Hi,

Some customers has a need to restrict the values of financial dimension that user is able to choose on certain documents and forms.

We have for example dimensions called Level and DetailedLevel.

Dimensions are in hierarchical position so that Level is parent of DetailedLevel. DetailedLevel is more detailed level of Level.

However, there are a lot of choices on DetailedLevel-dimension values which might cause a lot of human errors since values are manually added on different documents, such as project, project contract, production order, purchase order, sales order and free text invoice. There's a requirement that whenever user selects Level this will affect to the choices on DetailedLevel-dimension values. So to say, it will reduce the number of values to be selected. Drop-down would show only those dimension values that are applicable with the value selected on Level-dimension.

There's functionality called derived dimensions but you can use this functionality only other way round, choosing the most detailed dimension value which could populate the rest of the dimensions "in hierarchy". Also it is possible to restrict the values with organizational hierarchy or with account structure(s) but these restricts values only on journals when D365 knows which main account has been chosen and through that value gives only values related to that particular account structure (and advanced rules).

Could there be also this kind of restriction policy for financial dimensions?

This feature has been available in a former version of Microsoft ERP, already in AX4.0 and is very handy. Why has it been removed?
