A duplicate detection result dialog is shown when a user tries to save a record which already exists in the system. This works fine for new records. However, if there are already two records in the system and one gets changed, the same dialog is shown. This dialog doesn't enable merge from the dialog directly. This should be possible.

The lack of the Merge option in this duplicate detection alert dialog is quite incomprehensible. If a user has entered details on the new record that should be appended to the existing one, he will surely not want to cancel all this data entry. If he doesn't, a duplicate will then have been created, which needs to be searched for in a completely different window. Furthermore, if the fields which are the reason for a duplicate match are not part of the Quick Find search columns for the entity, lining up the two records on the same grid in order to start the Merge process might actually require the user to perform Advanced Find queries. All this because the duplicate alert dialog was not actionable for taking care of the data cleansing right there and then.

I was excited to find this suggestion, it's exactly what I wanted to post. Then _stunned_ to see it is nearly 8 years old! I'm starting to get some bad feelings about our choice to run D365.
