Current situation:

When a demand for an item is placed on a date 2 days from now. The planned supply will be generated 1 day from now. That is confusing.

Some background: the current planning optimization appears to use the Time field in the Inventory Transaction. This time field for most type of transactions, like saleslines and demand planning is 00:00. Resulting in the supply being generated the day before.

Production orders for example do have a time filled in the transaction time field.

In the deprecated master planning parameters there is a default time field that is used for the deprecated master planning.

Proposed solution:

When adding an inventory transaction, update the time field with the master planning parameter for default time.

This for all type of transactions except for the production order and production order line as they already use the time field.

Make sure this functionality is extendable for partners for more complex scenarios.

As the planning optimization already respects this field the expectation is that planned orders will be generated on the same date as the demand.

Business value:

Companies are more and more working just in time. Meaning orders places this morning might be shipped this evening. This feature will help in this.

Also it is confusing that a demand planning for a date does not result in a planned order for that date. This feature will make the result more understandable.

Further details:

We already did a modification at a customer to support this scenario. However, we think this would be great to have as a general feature for all our customers. In case you would like to learn more please contact me here or on Yammer.

Also this would open up other new ideas, for example to have a time field on the salesorder line. Or use times in transferorders. Use lead times in time. However, let us start with the basic step and get the planning optimization working like the deprecated one. And then start adding more features to support the worlds supply chains.
