As soon as a single line of the Sales Order has been shipped the Sales Order will be released. In order for a user to be able to change anything on the Sales Order ie. the price or add a new line that has some amount the error appears that the Sales Order has been released.
Suggestion: Make the automatic Release of Sales Order during posting (or at least during shipment) optional with additional Option/Checkbox on a Sales Setup. At the moment the user has to call the action "Reopen" which does the job but many of the customers might not have the need for the releasing process.

There is a lot of check in the code upon release that needs to be executed, so in any case release needs to be done and would break a lot of code.
Whether there is a function to automatically re-open after post or user does it you can discuss. Personally I don't see the need for automatic re-open.
