Our client in Pharmaceutical industries outsources their whole packaging. They own the drug product that is packaged (1st BOM line) and pay the CMO for the packaging service (2nd BOM line). They need to plan the production and send out the subcontracting purchase order 150 days in advance, which is why we use a 150 days production lead time.

Even the orders are firmed/send out 150 days in advance, the actual packaging happens only in the last 1-2 days. In order to allow accurate planning of the drug product and the subcontracting PO to reflect the end date of the production, we would like planned production orders to backward schedule planned production orders from the requirement date.

As informed by the product team, D365 does not allow backward scheduling by using lead times. If we want to backward schedule, we need to set up and use routes. Whilst this is possible, it feels like unnecessary overhead to have a route (as the actual manufacturing is outsourced, and there is no capacity planning needed). It would be nice if the system would allow to backward schedule only using production lead times. For example, by looking at the BOM line "End" parameter, which is currently only considered if routes are used.
