GOAL

  • Increase planning efficiency by avoiding delays that will not impact the delivery date of a requirement

Context

  • Planners are often overwhelmed by the amount of planning alerts (in this case delays). As a consequence the accurate planning follow up takes more time than needed (filtering the relevant issues) .In the end the planning alerts are not (efficiently) followed up in some implementation.
  • Being able to reduce the number of delays by avoiding the creation of those that will not impact the actual delivery date will support the planner.

Idea

  • Incorporate in planning optimization the existing capability of legacy master planning to switch on/off the delay calculation on coverage group level.

Remark : this functionality is present in legacy master planning,so planners that already use this functionality will switch more efficiently to planning optimization.

Use cases

  • Packaging items (e.g. foil, corrugated board,...) that can easily be supplied in an alternative way or replaced by another item will never delay the actual delivery date of a requirement. for those the delay calculation can be switched off (remark: actions can still be generated if requested)
  • Phase in items that have not yet accurately received a lead time from the supplier (typical case in ETO businesses) should only impact the requirements delayed date if this lead time is confirmed.
