Business Scenario

When maintaining Purchase and Sale Price Lists in Business Central, users can create a Price List Header with Assign-to Type = All Vendors or Assign-to Type = All Customers while still defining specific vendor or customer assignments at the line level by setting:

• Assign-to Type = Vendor
• Assign-to No. = Specific Vendor

• Assign-to Type = Customer
• Assign-to No. = Specific Customer

This behavior is fully supported in the Business Central application UI and provides the flexibility needed to manage mixed pricing scenarios.

Current Limitation

When using the Edit in Excel feature to update Purchase or Sales Price List lines, we observed that the line-level values are not retained correctly after publishing.:

• Assign-to Type = Vendor
• Assign-to No. = Vendor Number

Instead, the line reverts to: Assign-to Type = All Vendors

resulting in the vendor-specific assignment being lost.

Expected Behavior

The Edit in Excel functionality should replicate the same business logic and flexibility available within the Business Central application.

If Business Central allows users to:

1. Set the Price List Header to "All Vendors"
2. Define a specific Vendor at the line level

Then Edit in Excel should preserve and publish those values exactly as entered.

The expectation is that data edited through Excel should respect the same validation and data model supported by the Business Central UI.

Business Impact

This inconsistency creates a difference in behavior between:

• Maintaining Purchase Price Lists directly in Business Central
• Maintaining Purchase Price Lists through Edit in Excel

As a result:

• Vendor-specific purchase prices may unintentionally become applicable to all vendors.
• Users may unknowingly publish incorrect pricing data.
• Additional manual validation is required after publishing.
• Confidence in using Edit in Excel for mass maintenance is reduced.
• Additional manual workload to create a price list per Vendor or Customer

Suggested Enhancement

Update the Edit in Excel integration for Purchase Price Lists so that:

• Line-level Assign-to Type values are preserved and published correctly.
• Line-level Assign-to No. values are retained.
• Excel editing provides the same behavior and validation rules as the Business Central user interface.

This would ensure consistency across maintenance methods and prevent unexpected changes to vendor or customer -specific pricing.

Why this should be considered

Even if the current behavior is by design, it is not aligned with the functionality available in the Business Central application itself. Users naturally expect Edit in Excel to be a different interface for maintaining the same data, not to impose additional restrictions or alter the resulting configuration.
