Business Central List pages have the Page action wherein there are two sub actions, namely "Open in excel" and "Edit in excel". There are certain times when strictly only "Open in excel" is to be allowed for specific users in the tenant. As of now, both actions are simultaneously handled for visibility using "EXCEL EXPORT ACTION". The idea is to break the co-existence of these actions and make them independent either by code or by permission management.

Thank you for your feedback. We are solving this differently from the current suggestion. Instead of making another permission available in Business Central specifically for Edit in Excel, administrators can decide which users or AAD user groups can have access to the Excel add-in using the administrative options in the Microsoft 365 Admin center.

Business Central 2021 release wave 2 includes an assisted setup wizard that guides administrators through the process of configuring the Excel add-in.

>1. In which scenarios is it not desirable for users to have access to "Edit in Excel"?
For example in case of a not very clever user, they can accidently delete maybe one customer, but though Edit in Excel they can easily delete ALL customers, just by removing "non-interesting" (according to their thinking) lines from excel.

That's why we should have different permissions for "Open in excel" and "Edit in excel", so that editing is possible to advances (with higher IT IQ) users and opening in excel for all users (in finance department for example).

>2. Have you tried denying write access to the appropriate tables which you do not want edited in Excel?
They should be able to delete a single record but not all.
